Affiliate Dealers (MN) and Out-of-State Affiliates
Affiliates who wish to sell titled/registered assets on K-BID must follow specific procedures and include certain details in their listings. These guidelines comply with Minnesota DMV/DNR requirements; however, it is the affiliate’s responsibility to include any additional information required by the State where the auction is held.
For questions about listing titled/registered assets, please contact
K-BID’s Title Department at (763) 479-6940.
General Requirements for Titled/Registered Assets
-
Vehicle Dealer Requirements
- Vehicles sold through Minnesota-based auctions must be sold through a licensed auto dealer.
- Affiliates conducting auctions outside Minnesota are responsible for knowing and following the applicable vehicle laws in their auction’s location.
-
Dealer’s License on File
- K-BID must have a copy of the current dealer’s license if one is required by the State where the auction will take place.
- The affiliate is responsible for providing K-BID with an updated license upon renewal.
-
Clear Title in Hand
- Do not list a titled/registered asset without having a clear title on hand.
- Promises of forthcoming documents are not sufficient for listing.
-
Accurate and Comprehensive Photos
- Provide enough photographs to give bidders all relevant visual details.
- Include pictures of dents, damage, missing parts, and any other unexpected flaws.
-
Complete and Accurate Descriptions
- The description must include all required information for the type of vehicle (see “Information Requirements” below).
- Fully disclose any functional or aesthetic issues.
- Failing to provide details critical to a bidder’s valuation may be considered misdescription; affiliates cannot hold bidders accountable for assets that were misdescribed.
-
Transfer and Other Fees
- For Minnesota-based auctions, transfer fees must be added as a fee on each lot. Please see these articles:
- For out-of-state auctions, disclose any additional fees required by that State’s laws.
- Fees charged should not exceed the actual amount required by the DMV.
-
Document Administration Fee
- Doc admin fee up to state allowed maximum, must transfer a title to charge it.
-
Reserves on Titled/Registered Assets
- If an asset has a reserve price, it must be set in the K-BID software before the auction is published. (See Reserve Policy for details.)
- A reserved asset that does not meet its reserve may be relisted a maximum of three times.
- After the third time, the item can only be relisted without reserve.
- A Reserve Not Met fee will be charged each time an asset does not meet reserve (even if the reserve is lowered after a bid has been placed, and the bidder opts not to purchase).
-
Prohibition on Seller Bidding
- Affiliates must inform consignors (in their consignment contracts) that sellers are prohibited from bidding on their own assets.
-
Monitoring Bids
- Affiliates are responsible for monitoring auctions and notifying K-BID immediately if there is suspicion of fraudulent or shill bidding.
-
Salvage or Prior Salvage Titles
- Any salvage or prior salvage branding must be disclosed in the description.
